Of Oaths Made and Broken
words by Zorbo_Jorks, art by aueth
Summary:Kilgwan just smiled— a gleeful presentation of far too many jagged teeth. He leaned forward on his throne and sang, “When the five of you I last did see, five promises you made to me! Three promises are broken now— one yet to test and one still sound.”
Arthur growled, and Morgana made a similar noise beside him.
“Are you serious?” she asked, “That was years ago!”
“A word given is a word to keep,” the creature sang back, ignoring the table’s shouts of dismay, “You sow lost words— dark gifts you reap.”
————–
As children, Arthur, Morgana, Gwen, Elyan, and Leon made vows to a creature named Kilgwan in the catacombs of Camelot.Years later, on the even of Arthur’s prospective betrothal, they are whisked away to make ammends for breaking them. Merlin and Gwaine must make up for the prince’s sudden absence by disguising the latter as Arthur to court Princesses Mithian, Vivian, and Elena in his place, all while Merlin tries to find Arthur and his friends before any ill befalls them.
Amid this, Morgause schemes to kill the Pendragons and Merlin pines for his prince, convinced his love cannot be.
It takes very little for the delicate web of problems to fall into chaos.

I’m thinking about Aurane’s letter to Cersei about Loras’s fate at Dragonstone again. How fucking brutal it describes his condition like “oh yeah he got burning-oiled 😳 and shot multiple times and probably stabbed too but he’s still hanging on ✌️ thoughts & prayers” and how unbelievable that would be to literally anyone other than Cersei, who would at this point willingly believe anything anyone told her about a Tyrell getting maimed. Like Jaime would take one read and say no that kid’s fucking gone what do you mean near death. Anyway this isn’t me saying that I think Loras is totally fine but it’s also not not me saying that I think Loras and Aurane were giggling and kicking their feet while coming up with the most grisly, horrible death scenario for Loras to miraculously survive.

I can only imagine what Aerys was like during Weresigil Week. Though I wonder if the strength of the sigil depended on the person since you mentioned you need fifty Freys for a tower.
I don't think no one would doubt that Rhaegar or Daenerys would be full-blown dragons (Or Jon if he goes towards the angry black thing much to Ned's every-increasing blood pressure) but what about "unworthy" Targaryens like Viserys or Aerys? Would they be more like lizards whose best attempts to huff fire only puff up smoke or terrifying dragons in their own right?
Thematically, I’m not sure if I like that very much. Like saying someone is more of a “worthy” example of their heritage treads very close to completely opposing the whole point of the series, imo. It’s plausible that some physicalities would vary between people (maybe Aerys is a weird scraggly looking dragon because he’s a scraggly looking human, for example), but I don’t think a person’s moral values/actions would affect that.
(I also think it’s questionable that Jon would be a full blown dragon in that scenario if it’s based on how much of a “worthy targaryen” they are. homeboy is like an anti-targ Targaryen (if you even want to call him one). he would be a fucking gecko.)

Go the GreyJoys suddenly become hyper battle competent for like a week as krakens or does their fishy overcompensation continue?
Also the idea of them just being regular sized squid’s not Krakens really just cracks me up. 🤣
Sigil Week is a metaphorical dick measuring contest on the Iron Islands, and it’s the only thing the Greyjoys can actually manage to win. Balon is forever mad that his rebellion didn’t overlap with the one week that he could literally take down ships from beneath lmao
